OLD SPICE - DREAM RUNNER

2016

Lead UX Designer: Mobile Website Application and Desktop Website

The Ask

Weiden + Kennedy approached MediaMonks with the idea of Dreamrunner.
Run it to win it! A website running experience where users could run a shape
and win that shape as a price. The shape would be posted on a User generated
gallery where the winners would get picked.

The Insights

While running, the slightest task like changing a song you don't like,
can consume a lot of energy. So the interactivity in this experience had to be very minimal.

The primary objective was not to run to a distance within a specific time,
or to burn calories; it's to draw the given shape on the map and win it as a price.
However, there is still a sense of pride in the shape you would be able to create
and how you did it; especially, when your results are made public.

The Approach

Our approach was putting emphasis on the creator experience, while keeping
the well known practices of running apps intact and recognisable to the user.

A split map view offered the user two views to toggle between. One view used for
navigation and one view used as a painting canvas that tracked your path. This way the user
would be able to navigate streets and still see their overall shape being formed without
having to zoom in and out. With a single tap a user could expand
one of the views and toggle between them.

Along the way, a user would be presented with both motivating audio, and animations
on top of the map. With simple onboarding, I explained how users could draw a path,
the importance of using headphones, and keeping the screen unlocked.
